Songsang
Finally, the theme is finally done up. To recap, Songsang is a malay slang which means not straight, mostly used in gender-related terms, more of a subtle description used to describe gay relationships.
It was my first “organised” photo shoot with the boys, whom I known from a year already. It all started out with a random thought of wanting to shoot something towards the relations of homosexuality. (Not that I have a fetish for anything). So I decided to approach the boys having the thought that they will oppose to the idea altogether. But….. they agreed instantly thinking that it will gonna be fun. Only initially they tried to set the rules of no kissing, no hugging and sorts. Which at the end of the day, it all went down the drain.
Songsang was held at Hotel 81 Bencoolen when you have at least 2 girls (including me) and 4 guys cramped in such a small budgeted room. The guys being nothing pro in modelling, actually did a pretty good job, but it was abit tedious to get them serious for the camera because every single one has their own sense of humor. But all in all, I had fun shooting them. It was worth the while.
Why Songsang?
On a very natural thought, it was actually inspired by drag queens, Levis, the twins; Khairun & Khairin.. to name a few. I was also attracted to this article as well regarding incestuous couple, and the twins just came to mind. So I decided to try it out and see what a straight person like me, can suggests subtlety of the concept into photos. (Note: All boys are straight.) No hands on experience with anything, just basic research & observations. After all, this is for fun & joy.
Note: I would like to thank Vira, An, Khairun, Khairin & Lenny for making this very simple shoot happen. And to make this very clear, all the boys in this shoot is very very very straight. And please do refrain yourself from approaching them when they are working (you shall know when one is working or not), because some things happened and I just don’t want it to happen again. Ok, I just had to add that in.
